A Heron Hunting in a Garden Pond – Video

This video by YouTube user redsonia100 is a sight for sore eyes. Just after our recent blog post outlining some of the precautions you might employ to protect your Koi carp from Heron, we’ve come across this video showing a crafty bird flouting several of them!

There are some take-away points in this video, in that the netting used to cover the pond has, in this instance, been placed particularly low to the water’s surface. Given the tension of the netting and how fine it is, the Heron has been able to walk successfully on it. Although it’s unlikely the bird could pull a fish from the pond with netting that fine, being within such easy reach could still prove fatal to the fish-stock. You’ll notice that this all happens as the decoy Heron looks on! – we can’t watch.
