Have you ever dreamt of owning a wonderful dream house with a swimming pool in the garden? You probably have as few of us can resist the occasional bout of wishful thinking! But if you are planning on viewing a few country pads in the near future, you might discover that some of the luxurious properties now offer a pond instead of a pool.
Natural Ponds are the New Must-Haves
The latest must-have garden features are not swimming pools but rather swimming ponds. These natural swimming pools may not be everyone’s cup of tea but are now all the rage with nature lovers. The lack of chemicals in the water means that the ponds are havens for wildlife and they certainly look amazing. But constructing a pond that is both large enough and deep enough to swim in is not a low-budget enterprise.
The Cost of a Natural Pool
A swimming pond will set you back between £90,000 and £200,000! You need to own a substantial residence to make this sort of expenditure worthwhile. But if you can afford it, this type of pond is a simply fabulous addition to your home and will also help wildlife to prosper.
The Swimming Pond Specialists
There are now companies which specialise in installing swimming ponds and they have experienced a spike in interest over the last four years. The ponds provide the perfect place to cool off in summer and remain clean because of the micro-organisms which are present and the natural purifying properties of the plants.
The ponds have yet to hit the mainstream, but more and more people are hearing about them. Those with environmental concerns tend to love the concept and, despite the often less than wonderful British weather, enthusiasts are quite happy to swim in unheated water.
The celebrities who already benefit from a swimming pond include Carphone Warehouse founder Sir Charles Dunstone and Storm Models Management founder Sarah Doukas. Swimming ponds were promoted at the Chelsea Flower Show this year where they attracted a great deal of interest.
Swimming Ponds Without Wildlife
It is possible to have a natural swimming pool but without the wildlife. These installations will suit those who don’t fancy swimming with newts! New filtering technology means that you can have freshwater pools without the nasty chemicals or the various creatures which would otherwise inhabit the water.
Natural ponds are attractive features and will not dry out your skin and hair as chlorinated water tends to do. The ponds are enormous fun for kids and, if you do appreciate wildlife, they are the perfect way to ensure that your garden is a modal of biodiversity. But they don’t come cheap! Most of us will have to settle for a more modest garden pond, a few fish and a trip to the local baths once in a while. Shame!
